The Cases

The Supreme Court's review of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act arose out the the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. There, a divided, three-judge panel struck down the most controversial provisions of the law. Both parties appealed different questions to the Supreme Court, and the Court split the case into three separate cases to handle each question separately.

The Law

The Supreme Court will consider four questions in reviewing the Affordable Care Act. These four short videos provide background on each question the Court will hear.

The Justices

Each of the nine Supreme Court justices will approach the Affordable Care Act cases from a different background. The longest serving justices have a well-established history of votes and opinions, while the Court's newest members will be addressing the issues raised by these cases for the first time.
